The restaurant at 730 Campbell Lane serves until 3 AM Sunday through Thursday and 4 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, which makes it the late-night default for Western Kentucky University students. | Day | Opens | Closes | Hours open |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday to Thursday | 10:30 AM | 3:00 AM | 16.5 |

Why does a tray cost less in Bowling Green than in Myrtle Beach or Tampa?
Because Kentucky taxes a meal at the state's 6% rate and Warren County adds nothing on top, according to TaxHero, Galvix and Salestaxhandbook. Most of the states we have covered add local meal or surtax charges. Dollar amounts below start from the chain's typical menu, since Campbell Lane posts its own board.
| Where | Tax on a meal | Regular Tray | Milkshake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bowling Green, KY | 6% | $7.83 | $4.23 |
| Oakwood, GA | 7% | $7.91 | $4.27 |
| Tampa, Jacksonville, Pensacola, FL | 7.5% | $7.94 | $4.29 |
| Myrtle Beach, SC (city limits) | 11.5% | $8.24 | $4.45 |
The gap is 41 cents on a tray between Bowling Green and Myrtle Beach. A group of four Regular Trays costs $31.33 here against $32.96 on the Grand Strand. See the price guide for the full board.
Why do Tripadvisor and Yelp disagree on this store?
They score different diners. Tripadvisor gives the restaurant 4.0 of 5 from 54 reviews and ranks it 68th of 237 restaurants in Bowling Green, which puts a drive-thru burger stand in the top third of a college town's dining list. Yelp averages 3.3 stars from 73 to 74 reviews. The complaints on Yelp repeat: milkshakes that vary from visit to visit and orders that arrive wrong at a busy hour. The praise repeats too, for speed and for the price of a full tray.
| Site | Rating | Reviews | Notable |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tripadvisor | 4.0 of 5 | 54 | Ranked 68th of 237 restaurants |
| Yelp | 3.3 stars | 74 | Shake consistency and order accuracy are the common complaints |
What is the Cook Out's place in Hilltopper culture?
It is a post-midnight stop. The restaurant's Facebook page says it supports the WKU Hilltoppers, and a WKU Herald student opinion piece from roughly five years ago listed Cook Out among the city's late-night cravings spots, recommending its trays at about $5 at the time. A Regular Tray is $7.39 before tax today. Another Herald article describes college as full of late nights that can end with a Cook Out run.
Where is the Campbell Lane store?
On the Campbell Lane commercial corridor, the same road as a Chick-fil-A that opened at 667 Campbell Lane in December 2022. Kentucky has about 12 Cook Outs in all, around 3% of the chain, and Bowling Green's is one of them. The state's other stores are covered in our Lexington guide and on the locations page.
What should you order on a late run?
A tray at this hour is the standard play. The Regular Tray comes to $7.83 and the Jr. Tray to $6.77, while a Big Double on its own is $4.23. Reviewers who report a shake that came out thin recommend asking for it fresh. The menu page lists every tray combination.
Is the Bowling Green Cook Out worth the drive?
For a late tray, yes. The hours run to 3 or 4 AM, the tax is the lowest of our city pages and the tray stays under $8. Check the order before you pull away from the window, since order accuracy is the most repeated complaint.
